Accessible Permits

Designated Accessible Parking Spaces

  • Eligibility: Vehicles must display both a valid Boise State University Accessible Permit and a state-issued accessible placard or plate, or a Disabled Veteran (DV) plate.
  • Usage: Accessible permits allow parking in:
    • Accessible spaces.
    • All other legal spaces on campus, except:
      • Designated Reserve Spaces.
      • Specific-use spaces (e.g., carpool, service vehicles).
    • Loading zones or service vehicle spaces for up to 15 minutes only.
  • Wheelchair Consideration: Non-wheelchair users with Accessible Permits are encouraged to park in regular spaces before using spaces designed for wheelchair accessibility.

Accessible Parking with State Disability Placards or License Plate

  • Usage: Vehicles with only a state-issued disability placard, license plate, or a Disabled Veteran (DV) plate can park in metered and ParkMobile spaces without paying fees.
  • Restrictions: Parking privileges do not extend to:
    • Prohibited zones (e.g., no parking areas, restricted spaces).
    • Spaces reserved for emergencies or maintenance (e.g., snow removal zones).
    • Long-term parking exceeding 48 hours.

Permit Requirements

  • A Boise State Accessible Permit requires documentation of a state-issued permanent disability placard or plate, or a Disabled Veteran (DV) plate.
  • Permits are for the exclusive use of the registered holder and are subject to revocation if misused.

State Issued Plates and Placards

  • State Issued plates and placards must be requested and approved through the Idaho Transportation Department.

Accessible Parking Requests by Role at Boise State University

  • Faculty and Staff can request temporary accessible parking through Boise State University’s Human Resources Department.
  • Students can request temporary accessible parking through Boise State University’s Educational Access Center (EAC).
  • The Department of Public Safety Parking and Transportation team manages the implementation of all accessible parking accommodations.
  • Each office (Human Resources, EAC, Title IX) ensures that the required documentation and support are in place before submitting requests for accessible parking.

Penalties for Unauthorized Use

  • Vehicles parked in accessible spaces without the appropriate permits are subject to ticketing or immobilization.
